The Official ‘MICHAEL’ Movie Trailer Is Here

Singer-songwriter and producer D’Angelo has sadly passed away, his family confirmed in a statement.

The official statement reads: “The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life. After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025. We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all to join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world.”

Born Michael Eugene Archer the multi-talented artist started performing music in his Dad’s church, but would later relocate to New York from Richmond, Virginia in pursuit of his dreams as a performing artist.

He eventually caught the attention of record labels, and would go on to release his debut album, Brown Sugar in 1995. The album helped define the emerging neo-soul sound which blended hip hop, soul and jazz.

Brown Sugar included hits. “Lady,” “Cruisin’” and earned him critical acclaim and platinum record sales.  He would go on to record several more chart-topping albums.  In addition to his own music, D’Angelo also wrote and produced for artists.  He penned the song, “U Will Know,” for Black Men United (B.M.U.) — a collaboration of male African-American male artists across the R&B, Soul and Neo-Soul genres.  The song was featured in the film Jason’s Lyric, and on the film’s soundtrack.

D’Angelo is survived by his three children, including his son, Michael D’Angelo Archer Jr., from his relationship with fellow soul singer Angie Stone, who passed away earlier this year.

D’Angelo’s immeasurable contributions to music can never be overstated.  He was a one-of-a-kind artist and musician who will be sorely missed.
