Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Is Now 34x Platinum

Today We Celebrate the Life of a King.  Happy Birthday, Michael Jackson!

MICHAEL JACKSON would have been 63 years old today, August 29, 2021 and he is still indisputably the greatest music artist and entertainer of all time—and the numbers prove it!  As Jay Z so truthfully put it,  “Men lie, women lie; numbers don’t.”

Michael Jackson’s top-selling Thriller album has been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for the thirty fourth time—that’s right, Thriller is now 34x platinum!  That’s 34 million copies of the 1982 album sold in the United States alone! Jackson‘s diamond album, Bad also recently received another RIAA certification, upgrading it from 10x platinum to 11x!

Thriller, released on EPIC Records, contained nine tracks with only one feature—former Beatles band member, Paul MCartney on the single, “The Girl Is Mine.”   The Quincy Jones-produced project became the first album in history to remain on Billboard’s Top 10 in its first 80 weeks on the chart!

Jackson also snagged an armful of Grammy trophies at the 26th Annual Grammy Awards held on February 28, 1984 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.  He was nominated for 12 awards, and walked away making history, after winning eight awards that night— the most ever won in one night at the time!

Michael Jackson‘s legacy is cemented in history.  His music is undeniably universal and timeless. Though there have been many comparisons made, and other artists claiming to be ‘the next Michael Jackson‘ or ‘the female Michael Jackson‘,  it’s clear that there is not one pop star today who will ever be able to match Michael‘s commercial dominance. The reigning King of Pop is still making history from beyond the grave.  So, try as they may, there will never, ever be another Michael Jackson!
