R&B icon, Mariah Carey is back! The singer, songwriter, producer and multi-Grammy Award winner has shared a new single, “Type Dangerous” ahead of her 16th studio album due out this year.
“Type Dangerous” samples the hip-hop classic, “Eric B. Is President” by Eric B. & Rakim. Mariah shared in a statement about the new song, “I’m so excited to finally be releasing ‘Type Dangerous’ into the world! I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with ‘Type Dangerous!'”
After a lengthy relationship with mainstream record labels (SONY, EPIC), the superstar has decided to go independent (and I couldn’t be happier!). Carey‘s last album was 2018’s Caution which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200. On her new single, she is making it clear that she’s looking for trouble singing: “Oh yes, I want someone to step to me / Oh yes, I want someone to rescue me / OH yes, I’ve never been afraid of love / Oh yes, that’s why I like ’em dangerous.”
In addition to new music, Carey will be honored with the Ultimate Icon Award at the 2025 BET Awards. Other honorees will include Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin and Snoop Dogg for their decades of groundbreaking contributions to music, entertainment, advocacy, and community impact.
