The Biggest Selling Album Of All Time Turns 40 Today, November 30th
On November 30, 1982 the album that would become the best-selling album in history was released. Michael Jackson‘s Thriller was his sixth studio album; the project was produced by Quincy Jones and released on EPIC Records. In 2015 Billboard announced that Thriller had become the first album ever to go 30-times platinum! It has since become the biggest-selling album in history — it still holds that record today, some 40 years later!
“Ever since I was a little boy, I would study composition; and it was Tchaikovsky that influenced me the most. If you take an album like ‘Nutcracker Suite’, every song is a killer, every one! So I said to myself, ‘Why can’t there be a pop album where every [song is a killer]?’ ” – Michael Jackson, to Ebony Magazine on his album, ‘Thriller’
