The talented singer and songwriter is determined to bring back music reminiscent of the golden age of R&B
R&B recording artist Rey Royale‘s music is a nod to that great 90’s R&B that we enjoyed from artists like Boyz II Men and Brian McKnight. The Boston native first gained widespread attention as a member of R&B group, Metro City. The group previously named, 617, opened for acts including The Temptations, Donell Jones and many more. The group caught the attention of A&M Records President Ron Fair who then signed them to a record deal. The deal also included an artist development deal with 55 Entertainment, a production company headed by NFL linebacker Willie McGinest and business partner Bob Francis. The group’s name was changed from 617 to Metro City— a moniker that more fully embodied their urban appeal. Metro City would go on to appear on the track, “Superstar” featured on Keyshia Cole‘s debut album, ‘The Way It Is.‘
They later disbanded and group member Rey Gilmore decided to continue his career performing as a solo artist under the stage name Rey Royale. His latest album, Journey to Ecstasy is classic R&B and a great project from start to finish! Rey recently chatted with AMN Magazine about why he feels so underrated, lessons he’s learned since losing his mother earlier this year, and why he will always have love for Keyshia Cole.
