‘Good Times’ Is Getting An Animated Reboot for Netflix

Netflix has ordered a 10-episode animated reboot of Norman Lear’s 1970s  sitcom ‘Good Times’

A television series showing an African American family living in the Cabrini-Green projects of Chicago, IL came to television in 1974, and originally ran on CBS between 1974 and 1979.   It was the first TV sitcom focused upon a two-parent  family, the Evans, who lived in an inner-city public housing project. ‘Good Times‘ was created by created by Eric Monte and Mike Evans, and developed by Norman Lear who was  also responsible for ‘Maude’of which ‘Good Times’ was a spin-off; ‘The Jeffersons and ‘Sandford and Son.’

The show quickly resonated with audiences; and not only Black families, but single mothers and anyone else who understood the struggles of working multiple jobs in an attempt to overcome poverty. For six seasons, audiences connected with the family desperately  trying to keep their “heads above water.”  Carl Jones, whose credits include animated series “The Boondocks” and “Black Dynamite,” will create, showrun, and executive produce the project. 

Norman Lear‘s production company,  Act III Productions will partner with basketball star Steph Curry and his production company, Unanimous Media, as well as Seth MacFarlane and his  Fuzzy Door company to develop the show. 

The animated version ofGood Times  will follow the Evans family as they navigate today’s world and contemporary social issues.
