Five Top Fashion Trends for Spring/Summer 2021

Big-shouldered sleeves, monochrome and fantasy florals are some of the season’s hottest looks

Fashion enthusiasts who had once only dreamt of attending the coveted New York or Paris Fashion Week shows, were now able to have a front-row seat as designers rolled out their latest collections via livestreamed shows, YouTube and  Insta-releases amid the COVID-19 world pandemic.

Some of the trends to come down the runway at the Versace, Chanel, Balmain and Dior SS2021 virtual shows were everything from bright neon colors to  flowy see-through floor length skirts. This season’s trends definitely has an emphasis on comfort. Here, we are going to take a look at five of the season’s hottest looks!

Puffed Sleeves

The billowing sleeves trend is one that has come over from 2020 into  this year’s must-have.  There have been many variations of this look including “the balloon” and the “Juliet,” for instance.  This trend could be seen in  the Dior Spring-Summer 2021 Show.  There are many subtle ways to facilitate this trend into your wardrobe—a fave being the ‘Poet Blouse’—for a dose of fun and high fashion!

The Bralette

Models hit the catwalk in this underwear worn as outerwear trend during shows like  Alberta Ferretti‘s. Available in a variety of show-off silhouettes, textures and prints this trend is chic when paired with a matching midi skirt, layered with a blazer, or  tonal trousers.

Monochrome

It’s hard not to appreciate the simplicity of the monochrome fashion trend! When it comes to a look that is simple, yet seriously chick and elegant,  monochrome is the obvious go-to!  This trend never shined brighter than it did at this years’ Inauguration Ceremony. Jennifer Lopez glowed in an all-white, head-to-toe Chanel monochrome look, and then there was First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris also rocking the trend.  However, I believe most would agree that former First Lady, Michelle Obama‘s plum-colored turtleneck paired with matching flared pants by African American designer,  Sergio Hudson  pulled together with the designer’s signature oversized belt definitely stole the show!  Mrs. Obama looked fabulous! Wear the trend  in white or in bright, bold colors to stay on trend this season.

Feathers

Consider the fluffy, feather-embellished skirts all over the Spring 2021 runways. The feathers are feminine and sexy. On any occasion, they will help you to be a chic and graceful woman. Dip your toe into this ultra-festive trend with feathers galore. Perhaps it’s just a little extra trim on your button-down shirt, or maybe an after-hours skirt paired with an oversized knit. Designers such as No. 21, Fendi, and Salvatore Ferragamo all played with feather flourishes on the runway and it’s high time you did in real life as well.

Fantasy Flowers

We saw versatility in this season’s floral prints on fashion runways. Delicate miniature florals on lace or sheer panels interpreted a feeling of romance, while  visible extra-large floral prints showed off detailed artistry.  Whether your style is boho-chic or glam, there are a variety of ways to incorporate beautiful floral prints in your ensembles this spring. And don’t be surprised if we see the return of the 2011 floral headband trend!
