Class of 1992: R&B Debut Releases

WHAT do artists CHANTE MOORE, SILK and TLC all have in common?  They are just a few R&B artists whose debut releases came out in 1992.  That’s right, this year marks the 30th year since some of the biggest names in R&B music first arrived on the scene!

For decades, R&B music’s influence was indelible — and this was never more evident than in the ’90s, an era affectionately referred to as the Golden Age of R&B.  The year 1992 introduced us to artists whose music would go on to define the decade – SWV, CeCe Peniston, Brian McKnight and others.  Two of the biggest, most influential names in R&B music also debuted that year, the infamous but multi-talented R.Kelly and the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul herself, Mary J. Blige! These artists and others who are part of  the Class of 1992, have firmly established their legacies and influenced thousands of newer R&B artists along the way including H.E.R, Jazmine Sullivan, Khalid, Jacquees and others.

“If the love doesn’t feel like 90’s R&B, I don’t want it!”

Starting now through the end of the year, AMN Magazine will take a look back at R&B debut releases within the year 1992.  Kicking things off are two debut releases that dropped in January 1992:  R. Kelly + Public Announcement‘s album Born Into the 90’s and CeCe Peniston’s debut release, Finally

This is my favorite era of R&B music!  Happy 30th Anniversary to those R&B artists who released their very first album in 1992!
