President Biden pins The Presidential Medal of Freedom on legendary luxury designer, Ralph Lauren.
American luxury fashion designer, Ralph Lauren made history as the first-ever fashion designer to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The 85-year-old Lauren, drapped in a tweed herringbone blazer, white shirt, knit tie, and navy blue pants, was joined by his wife, Ricki for the event celebrating those who have shaped “the culture and cause of America.” The 17 other award recipients included: Hillary Clinton, José Andrés, Magic Johnson, Denzel Washington, and Jane Goodall.
The designer became emotional when President Biden presented him with the medal. Lauren‘s impressive rise to success, his undisputed contribution to American fashion, and his prolific philanthropic work were profiled in the introduction. The announcer stated, “Ralph Lauren reminds us of our distinct style as a nation of dreamers and doers.”
