Anita Baker Now Owns Her Music

The Songstress Will Partner with Rhino Records To Release New Box Sets, Vinyl and Digital Streaming

R&B/Soul/Jazz legend Anita Baker shared via her social media (Twitter) that “all of her children are coming home,” referring to her impressive and beloved album collection.

Baker‘s fans have stood with her through her fight for ownership of her masters, by refusing to stream her music until it belonged to the songstress.  After a fan asked whether she had the greenlight to start streaming her music, Baker posted a message that included photos of five of her albums that said it all!

With a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Anita Baker has garnered many awards and a devoted fanbase that includes Mary J Blige (whose performance of Baker‘s “Rapture” landed her a record deal), to Toni Braxton and millions of others around the world!

In 2017, the eight-time Grammy winner announced her retirement and a Farewell Tour that kicked off the following year in 2018.  AMN Magazine  had the pleasure of being in the building, front and center for  the Dallas, Texas leg of the tour where Baker gave an electric performance of many of her hits including, “Rapture,” “Sweet Love,” “Fairytales” and “Lead Me To Love.”  The crowd were on their feet the entire night!

After a successful meeting with Rhino RecordsBaker shared that a new expansive box set is on the way, as well as vinyl and digital streams of her catalog.  The BET Lifetime Achievement recipient  never gave up fighting for what rightfully belonged to her.  As she put it, “Miraculously… I have out-lived ALL, of my Artist Contracts.  They no longer ‘own’ my name and likeness. And, by Law, the 30-year-old masters are to be returned to me. Unfortunately, they’re gonna make me fight for it; I’m prepared to do that!”

Congratulations to the phenomenal Anita Baker on this victory!  We are excited to listen to her timeless music again via digital streaming platforms and anxiously await the release of her new box sets and vinyl.

No release date has been announced for Baker’s reissues at this time.
