Compton’s New R&B Artist Is One To Watch

The West Coast may be widely known for its Hip Hop artists including Snoop Dogg,  the iconic NWA and Kendric Lamar to name a few, but  newcomer Gemaine is proof that great R&B can be found in Compton, too!   The talented singer-songwriter  first garnered attention after performing a freestyle that went viral on Vine.  In December 2013, with the help of his brother, Gemaine recorded a six second freestyle at Guitar Center that included a snippet of his song “Freaky.” He later decided to turn that snippet into his first single.   

Though he always had an appreciation for music, the reaction that his Vine received convinced him to pursue music full-time.  Influenced by artists including Michael Jackson, R. Kelly and Jamie Foxx, this rising star’s music is infused with the iridescent sounds of soul, jazz and pop Gemaine says, “I enjoy making music and I want others to connect and feel the emotion in my music.”  The singer’s self-produced EP, What’s Going On? was released earlier this year, which includes the title track, “Candy Rain,” and “Headrush.”  The project follows Gemaine‘s 2018 Shift EP, includes three songs. 

Given the trained pianist’s, impressive vocals, and obvious songwriting and production talent, it’s clear that we are  witnessing the birth of a bright star!  And it is for this reason that Gemaine’s got next!
