The legendary R&B trio readies new album set for May 2021
After 7 has long brought R&B music fans hit after hit with songs like, “Ready Or Not,” “Till You Do Me Right” and “Can’t Stop” just to name a few. The group, consisting of original members Kevon Edmonds, Keith Mitchell and the late Melvin Edmonds, signed with Virgin Records in 1988, after being brought to the label by Melvin and Kevon‘s brother — producer and award-winning artist and songwriter, Babyface.
In May 2019, the group mourned the sudden loss of founding member, Melvin Edmonds — his talented son, Jason Edmonds stepped in to continue the legacy in both live concerts and recordings until July 2019. It was then that vocalist, Danny ‘SkyHigh’ McClain joined Kevon Edmonds and Keith Mitchell to create a masterful woven tapestry of music for SRG-ILS/RoseWorks.
“Bittersweet is a song that delves into our favorite subject of love, life and relationships. I am fairly certain that if you live life long enough you will learn that you can’t have the sunshine without the rain.” – Kevon Edmonds, After 7
Now, more than three decades later, the NAACP Image Award winners and Grammy and American Music Award nominees will release a new LP on May 14th, led by the new single, “Bittersweet,” which was written by Tradessa Willis and Trevon Trapper from the duo Shakespeare, and produced by JCash Beatz.
After 7 have proven that they are still not done — as the name of their forthcoming album implies — Unfinished Business.
